A Long Island firm serving Long Island businesses
River Edge Advisors started on Long Island and our headquarters is still here, on Pearsall Avenue in Cedarhurst. Many of our longest client relationships are with businesses a short drive away, in the Five Towns, across Nassau County and out into Suffolk.
Long Island businesses have a particular profile. Many are family-owned or owner-led, have been built over years or decades, and have grown into several entities, locations or related companies along the way. The owner often still signs every check. The bookkeeper has been there for years and knows everything, but there's no backup, no documented close and no one turning the numbers into decisions. That's exactly where an outsourced finance team helps most.
We work with businesses throughout the Island, including the Five Towns (Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Woodmere, Hewlett and Inwood), the Rockaways and Valley Stream, Garden City, Mineola and Hempstead, Great Neck and the North Shore, and Hauppauge, Melville and the rest of Suffolk County.
The industries that keep Long Island running
Our Long Island clients span a range of industries. Most share the same need: books that close on time and a clear view of margin and cash.
- Home care and healthcare providers, including home care agencies, assisted living operators, ABA and behavioral health practices, and medical and dental groups with more than one location or entity.
- Real estate owners, operators and property managers with portfolios of LLCs across Nassau, Suffolk and the boroughs.
- MCA funders, ISOs and syndicators, many of whom are based on the South Shore, who need portfolio accounting and syndication reporting that ties out every month.
- Distribution, construction-related and service businesses where job or product-line margin decides whether growth helps or hurts.
- Family-owned holding groups with several related companies, intercompany balances and shared expenses that need to be untangled and consolidated.
- Startups and growing tech companies that need investor-ready books without hiring a finance team.
What we see when we first open the books
Every business is different, but certain issues come up again and again in established Long Island companies.
Everything runs through one person
A long-tenured bookkeeper or office manager holds the process in their head. It works until they go on vacation, get sick or retire, and then the owner discovers nobody else knows how the close works.
Related companies, tangled balances
Over the years, a business adds a property LLC, a second location, a management company or a sister business. Money moves between them informally, intercompany balances stop reconciling and nobody can say with confidence what each company really earns.
Numbers that show up months late
Plenty of owners only see a full set of financials once a year. Without a monthly close, pricing, hiring and expansion decisions are made on the bank balance and instinct.
Growth that strains cash
Adding a location, a contract or a product line can be profitable and still squeeze cash for months. Without a forecast, owners find out on payroll day.
Succession and sale planning
Owners thinking about bringing in the next generation, taking on a partner or selling need several years of clean, consistent financials. That history is far easier to build now than to reconstruct later.
Your accounting department, without the overhead
You can hand us the whole finance function or start with the piece you need most.
Bookkeeping and monthly close
Every account reconciled and a closed set of books delivered on a fixed date each month. More on bookkeeping.
Payables, receivables and payroll
Vendors paid on time under your approval rules, customer collections tracked, and payroll and benefits coordinated with your provider. See accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll and benefits.
Multi-entity consolidation
Each related company closed on the same calendar with consistent accounts, intercompany balances reconciled, and a consolidated picture of the whole group.
Controller and fractional CFO
Budgets, cash forecasts, KPI reporting, lender packages and a CFO's perspective on pricing, expansion and succession. See fractional CFO / controller.
Sale and transaction readiness
Clean multi-year financials, diligence support and a quality-of-earnings-ready history if a sale or recapitalization is on the horizon. See sell-side and transaction advisory.
A multi-entity close, cut from six weeks to ten days
Many Long Island businesses run several entities, and the close slows down with every one added. Here's what a disciplined close calendar did for one multi-entity healthcare client.
A twelve-entity close, cut from six weeks to ten days
A healthcare group with twelve entities needed six weeks to close the books after each month-end. We took on the accounting and reporting across all twelve entities. The close went from six weeks to ten days.
See all case studies →The same approach (one chart of accounts, one close calendar and reconciliations every month) works for a family holding group, a multi-location home care agency or a real estate portfolio. For home care specifically, see home care agency accounting; for property managers, see property management accounting; and for MCA firms, see accounting for MCA syndicators.
Three steps from first call to monthly rhythm
Switching to an outsourced team doesn't mean starting over. We take the books as they are and work forward.
- Free review of last month's books. We look at last month, for one company or the whole group, and walk you through what stands out: what doesn't reconcile, where intercompany balances have drifted and what we'd fix first.
- Catch-up and documentation. We bring the books current, map how money moves between your companies, and document the close so it never depends on one person again.
- Monthly rhythm. A closed set of books and a short owner's package on a fixed date every month, payables and receivables handled week to week, and CFO time when a decision comes up: a new location, a lease, a loan, a hire or a sale.
Most clients are on a regular monthly close within the first couple of months. From there, the conversation shifts from "are the numbers right?" to "what should we do next?", which is where an owner's time is best spent.

Questions owners ask
Where is River Edge Advisors located?
Our headquarters is at 377 Pearsall Ave, Suite B, Cedarhurst, NY 11516, in the Five Towns area of Nassau County. We also have a New York City office and serve clients nationwide.
Do you meet with clients in person on Long Island?
Yes. We're happy to meet at our Cedarhurst office or at your business anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk. Day-to-day work is mostly remote, so you get fast responses without scheduling meetings for everything.
Can you work with our long-time bookkeeper instead of replacing them?
Yes. Many clients keep an internal bookkeeper for daily entries and use us for the monthly close, reconciliations, controller review and CFO work. It also gives the business a documented process and a backup.
We have several related companies. Can you sort out the intercompany balances?
Yes. We reconcile intercompany activity, put every entity on the same close calendar and chart of accounts, and produce both entity-level and consolidated financials.
Is outsourcing right for a family-owned business?
Often, yes. It gives a family business the depth of a full finance team, with documented processes and continuity, at a fraction of the fixed cost of hiring each role.
