What's in the monthly close checklist
A ten-day close, laid out step by step: the same calendar we use to close the books for multi-entity clients.
- Days 1–2: clean the starting line. Reconcile every bank and credit card account and cut off bills and invoices so each lands in the right month.
- Days 3–4: code costs and check balances. Code payroll by location and entity, and review payables and receivables for aging, duplicates and unapplied cash.
- Days 5–6: match the books to the period. Book accruals, match revenue to the period it was earned and post intercompany entries.
- Days 7–8: review before anyone sees it. Review the trial balance, explain big variances against budget and tie out every balance-sheet account.
- Days 9–10: deliver the monthly package. P&L by location and entity, cash position, a 13-week cash forecast and lender or investor reporting.
It also lists the warning signs of a broken close, so you can see at a glance where your process stands.
Bonus: rent roll and property books checklist
For property managers and owners: a monthly checklist covering rent roll reconciliation, security deposits, CAM and recoveries, delinquency and receivables aging, and owner reporting. Tick a box only when you can point to the report that proves it.
Who it's for
Owners, CEOs, controllers and office managers at growing companies, particularly multi-entity or multi-location businesses in healthcare, real estate, alternative finance and tech. If your close takes more than three weeks, or numbers keep changing after the fact, start here.
